Sigma Alpha Mu's brotherhood is founded on a series of shared beliefs among the members. These enlightened beliefs include:
The belief that the fraternity pledge process is often seen in movies and in the media to be one degradation and inequality. Instead, our candidate program only retains it existence to educate our members on our history, traditions, and to allow the candidates to know our brothers. It is encompassed within four 45-minute sessions, held once a week. Anything a candidate does, will be done by brothers in good standing alike. A belief in a brotherhood that values mutual respect above all else, hazing goes against everything the we stand for. As a SAM brother, you will never be hazed. We encourage all members of the greek community to report incidents of hazing as it violates our True Bruin Values and goes against the mission of Greek Life. For more information about UCLA's zero tolerance for hazing, click here. The understanding that the financial responsibilities of many fraternities are unbearable to many students struggling to fund their education. Thus, we base our budget with a realistic monetary standard of what our members, and their families can provide. In many cases, with the help of Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation scholarships, your membership to Sammy at UCLA over four years can be free. A belief in inclusivity. As a historically Jewish fraternity we seek to support our Jewish brothers by promoting Jewish awareness. Our in house chef prepares kosher options with every meal, and our house kitchen is kosher friendly. However though we have a Jewish heritage, we are not an exclusively Jewish chapter and welcome and cherish all of our brothers regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation. |
